HOW IT ALL BEGAN

"Te-Ara" is Maori and translates roughly to "The Path".  This is the name that I chose for my 1973 Whitby 42 ketch, bought on Valentines Day 2021 in Alameda, California.

Five years ago, I discovered my love for blue water sailing during a six month cruise from New Zealand to Washington state.  On that adventure, I promised myself that I would take my own boat from California back to New Zealand one day.  Over the next few years, I plan on making Te Ara into a true blue water cruiser to prepare both her and myself for that journey.

This blog is intended to record my steps along that road.  I hope that you all enjoy the reading and that these stories inspire others to find their own path.
